Oscar Betting Predictions for Best Original Screenplay & Best International Feature
94th Academy Awards Oscars Ceremony
- When: Sunday, March 27
- Where: Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, CA
- TV / Streaming: ABC
Best International Feature Nominations & Odds
- Drive My Car -850
- Flee +650
- The Worst Person in the World +650
- The Hand of God +2200
- Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom +2500
Flee has a big shot to win this award. The movie is fantastic. But Flee is the top pick to win the Best Animated Feature award. Still, if you like Flee and think Encanto easily takes the Best Animated Feature Oscar, Flee is worth backing.
But Flee is only worth backing as an underdog. Drive My Car should win the Best International Feature Oscar. Heading into March, the movie has gotten the most buzz of any film, domestic or international.
The underdog choice is The Hand of God. It’s a stirring, personal tale about a young man who tragically loses his parents. At the odds, The Hand of God is worth a look to upset both Drive My Car and Flee.
Best International Feature Top Pick: Drive My Car
Best International Feature Underdog Pick: The Hand of God
Best Original Screenplay Nominations & Odds
- Licorice Pizza -150
- Belfast +160
- Don’t Look Up +700
- King Richard +2000
- The Worst Person in the World +2000
It’s difficult to choose between Belfast and Licorice Pizza. Both are fantastic stories. The difference, though, is in originality.
Licorice Pizza is a unique coming of age story. Belfast is more traditional. Not only that, but there’s a chance Belfast wins multiple other Oscars. So the Academy could decide to award Paul Thomas Anderson for his fantastic movie in this category, which is why Licorice Pizza is the top pick over Belfast.
Don’t Look Up isn’t a very good film. So it’s difficult to understand why it got a nomination. Other films deserved Don’t Look Up’s spot.
The Worst Person in the World is an interesting story. It’s a great screenplay and there’s a chance enough Academy voters go for it before Licorice Pizza or Belfast. Upsets have happened in the best original screenplay category.
So we can’t discount The Worst Person in the World. But if you’re looking to back an upset, consider going with King Richard. The story, about Richard Williams, Venus’ and Serena’s father, is fantastic.
The movie is great and the Academy didn’t nominate Reinaldo Marcus Green for Best Director. So handing the statue to writer Zach Baylin could be the way for Oscar voters to make up for their mistake.
Best Original Screenplay Top Pick: Licorice Pizza
Best Original Screenplay Underdog Pick: King Richard
