The month of August is coming to an end, and when it does, the NASCAR Cup Series regular season will also come to an end. Counting the Verizon 200 at The Brickyard in Indianapolis this weekend, there are now just 3 races remaining on the regular season schedule. That is not a lot of time for the drivers below the playoff line to get up and into the final 16. We do know several of the drivers who are going to be in the playoff picture, but even they cannot relax, as there are still points to be earned and final standings to be cemented. The race this weekend is another that will be run on the road course at Indy, so there are some drivers who immediately spring to mind as favorites. Let’s take a look at a few of them along with their NASCAR Betting odds.
NASCAR Cup Series Betting: Verizon 200 at the Brickyard Race Preview
Chase Elliott +170
The defending Cup Series champion is in among the favorites for the race this Sunday, but he is also hovering around the top of the driver standings, where he is currently holding down 4th. He has two wins on the season, one of which came at the Road America track earlier this season, so it’s easy to see why he is always fancied by bettors when racing on a road course. He did that last weekend at Watkins Glen and finished 2nd in that one. If there is a bit of a downside here, it is that Elliott has not really delivered his best at The Brickyard. Still, he has to be considered a threat.
Kyle Larson +270
After sitting out most of the 2020 season through suspension, Larson has made an amazing return to action and is currently sitting atop the driver standings. After his win on the Watkins Glen road course last weekend, he now has 5 victories on the season and is beginning to look like the favorite to walk away with the title this season. There is, though, still a lot of racing to come, so anything can happen over the next couple of months. Larson has not been very good in his previous races in Indianapolis, but his current form suggests that might change.
Martin Truex Jr +800
Truex is another driver who seems to enjoy racing on road courses, as witnessed by his 3rd place finish at Watkins Glen last weekend. The bigger picture is what he will be looking at now, though, as he is very much in the hunt to win the Cup Series this season. He does have a couple of wins on the season, but the last one came back in May. In the races that have come since then, Truex has been a little inconsistent, but this might be the type of race where he gets back to winning ways.
Kyle Busch +1000
After winning the Cup Series in 2019, Busch had what was considered to be a mediocre 2020, finishing 8th overall in the driver standings. He has already doubled his 2020 win total this season and is up among the leaders heading into the final few races of the year. He finished 4th on the road course at Watkins Glen last week and has had a couple of top 10 finishes at the Brickyard over the last 3 seasons. Definitely needs to be considered a threat this Sunday.
