Gulfstream Park Picks for Saturday, June 20

Race 8 – 3:46 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

This race sets up for 3/1 on the morning line Money Never Sleeps. The Teresa Pompay 3-year-old filly finished third at a race at this level and at this distance in her last. The difference between that race and this one? There are no world-beaters while there appears to be a ton of speed to set her up for an off the pace run.

Don’t Get Khozy takes a massive step up from straight $25,000 claiming to this $75,000 optional claimer. But the Khozan sired filly is in excellent form with 3 wins and a second from her last 4 races. She’s run faster than many of these and the pace will be fast enough to flatter her closing kick.

Kathleen O’Connell trained Sweet Mia figures to hang on for third. She’ll wire this field if no one goes with her. This race is much tougher than her 9/5 morning line indicates, though. So, be wary of betting on her to win.

  • Win: Money Never Sleeps
  • Place: Don’t Get Khozy
  • Show: Sweet Mia

Race 10  – 4:54 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $16,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Vinnie Van Go drops in class, races at distance where the gelding has 3 wins, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds from 10 races, and if it comes up muddy, should excel. There’s no reason not to make the 7/2 morning line choice our top pick.

Cpt. Rhett Butler could grab the lead and never look back. Although we prefer Vinnie Van Go on top, we can’t discount Rhett’s chances of getting his picture taken. Trainer Kelsey Danner wins 27% with his last out maiden winners. So, if you prefer this one for your win money, we’re not arguing.

Unpublished should be right there. The 4-year-old gelding lost by just a nose in a tougher open claiming $25,000 race at this distance in its last. If the track comes up sloppy, don’t leave from the top spot of your exotic tickets.

  • Win: Vinnie Van Go
  • Place: Cpt. Rhett Butler
  • Show: Unpublished

Race 12 – 5:54 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $30,000 Claiming

We’re salivating over the 6/1 odds on South Sea. Trainer Bobby Dibona wins 24% first after the claim. But that’s not the only reason we like South Sea. Dibona scores 29% when he puts the blinkers back on. He wins 33% when he drops and 27% with beaten favorites.

South Sea should hold the morning line odds because Todd Pletcher has entered Win With Pride. The Distorted Humor sired 6-year-old gelding finished second in its first race for Todd. We’d consider for the top spot, but Pletcher is 0-for-3 second after the claim, meaning he gets them ready to fire first time they race for him.

Teresa Pompay drops Green Mansions from optional claiming $50,000 to this $30,000 claimer. That’s a massive drop. Pompay wins 28% second off a layoff and 21% going route to sprint. If you want to put some money behind a big longshot, Green Mansions is the play.

  • Win: South Sea
  • Place: Win With Pride
  • Show: Green Mansions
