2020 Top Stakes Races for the Week Nov. 9th Edition

The Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships happened this past Friday/Saturday, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have great thoroughbred stakes action on Saturday Nov. 14 and Sunday Nov. 15. Churchill Downs runs the Grade 2  Ms. Revere Stakes on Saturday while Del Mar runs one of two races that honors their founders, the Grade 3 Bob Hope on Sunday. Check out top plays and Horse Racing Odds for the Top Stakes Races of the Week from Saturday, Nov. 14 – Sunday, Nov. 15. Horse Racing Picks for the Top Stakes of the Weekend (Nov. 14-15)

Saturday, Nov. 14 Races

Aqueduct Racetrack

  • Artie Schiller Stakes – 1 mile turf – $100,000
  • Notebook Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – $100,000

Curlin’s Honor won the 2019 Artie Schiller Stakes. The five-year-old horse hasn’t run since a fourth in the Sunshine Millions Turf this past January, though. That doesn’t mean he won’t show up on Saturday. Either way, expect a dynamite field of tough, blue collar, runners to enter the starting gate now that the big turf races are done with for the year.

Churchill Downs

  • Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes – 1 1/16 miles turf – $200,000

Nay Lady Nay won the 2019 Mrs. Revere Stakes. She just ran in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf on Saturday. Nay Lady Nay couldn’t run in the Mrs. Revere this year anyhow because the condition of the race is for 3-year-old fillies. Which 3-year-old filly we didn’t see at the Breeders’ Cup could get it done under the Twin Spires on Saturday? Make sure to check out the Mrs. Revere!

Del Mar Racetrack

  • Desi Arnaz Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – $100,000

Bob Baffert is likely to saddle three runners for the Desi Arnaz Stakes on Saturday: Private Mission, Varda, and Heels Up. They could all end up chasing Richard Mandella trained Astute, who was fantastic when breaking her maiden in October.

Sunday, Nov. 15 Races

Aqueduct Racetrack

  • Winter Memories Stakes – 1 1/16 miles turf – $100,000
  • Key Cents Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – $100,000

The Winter Memories is Aqueduct’s 3-year-old filly turf race. The Mrs. Revere at Churchill is the more important race. That could be a good thing from a betting perspective. No doubt, a longshot that figures could end up taking the Winter Memories Stakes and that’s not a bad thing at all.

The Key Cents is a New York race for 2-year-old fillies. Expect some decent youngsters to sign on for the Key Cents. Because it’s at 6 furlongs, look to back a filly with sprinter breeding. Also, pay attention to any filly that makes a middle move during the race and ends up winning. If that happens, that filly could end up one to watch in 2021.

Del Mar Racetrack

  • Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – $100,000

12 equines hope to contend for the winner’s share of the purse in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes on Sunday. The 12 likely runners are listed along with the name of their trainers.

  • Ambivalent – Doug O’Neil
  • Caisson – Richard Mandella
  • Coastal Kid – Jeffery Metz
  • No Pedigree – Doug O’Neil
  • Dixie’s Two Starts – Doug O’Neil
  • Red Flag – John Shirreffs
  • Run Snappy – John Sadler
  • Spielberg – Bob Baffert
  • Teton Valley – Ryan Hansen
  • Uncle Boogie – Andrew Lerner
  • Weston – Ryan Hansen
  • Wipe the Slate – Doug O’Neil

The 2020 Bob Hope Stakes figures to be one of the most hotly contested in years. Make sure to do your handicapping before backing any of the runners.

Good luck!
