We have had a road race already in the early stages of the NASCAR season, and now this weekend we will have another different type of race to look forward to. The Cup Series drivers will be in Bristol to race on the dirt, which is a wholly different surface from what they are used to. We are seeing some drivers take a run in the Xfinity and Truck Series races this weekend to try and get a handle on the dirt track before they tackle it again on Sunday on the Food City Dirt Race. This is a track that will absolutely favor some drivers more than others, so let’s take a look at the current NASCAR Odds to see who might be in the hunt to win this weekend.
NASCAR Cup Series Betting Preview for Food City Dirt Race
Kyle Larson (+450)
We are 8 races into the 2022 Cup Series season, and we have to say that we have yet to see the best from the defending champion. Larson does have a win in the early going, but he has been disappointing in more than a few races and is down in 13th overall in the driver standings. While Larson does have a very decent history racing on dirt, it should be noted that he didn’t really perform well in the corresponding race last season, finishing 29th on the dirt at Bristol. It may be a slow start to the season for the champ, but you write him off at your own peril.
Christopher Bell (+860)
After winning a Truck Series Championship in 2017, followed by a couple of top 4 overall finishes in the Xfinity Series, Bell is looking to take another step forward in his 3rd full season in the Cup Series. His best showing came last season when he finished 12th overall. He has not picked up a win yet this season, but he has run in the top 10 on 3 separate occasions. He had a poor showing in this race last season, so I do have to say that I am a little surprised to see him up among the favorites for the Food City Dirt Race.
Joey Logano (+970)
If you look at the past decade or so in the Cup Series, one of the biggest surprises is that Logano has yet to win a championship. This is a drive that always seems to be in the mix and heading into the final race of the year with a shot to win it all. Thus far, a championship has eluded him, but might this be his season? He has yet to win, but he has performed well and finds himself in 4th in the driver standings. He won this race in 2021, so I think he is a great pick at these odds.
William Byron (+1225)
It’s still a little early to get too carried away, but it is beginning to look as though Byron is about to have himself a breakout season. He is sitting 3rd overall and is coming off a win, his 2nd of the year, at Martinsville last weekend. Moving to the dirt presents a different challenge, but given what he done in this race in 2021, where he finished 6th, I would absolutely not count him out.
