NFL Divisional Round: 49ers vs Packers | NFL Odds for the Game

Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers might go down as the most talented quarterback in NFL history, but for whatever reason he is 0-3 career in the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers and the Pack host the Niners on Saturday night in the Divisional Round as nearly TD favorites on the NFL odds.

In Week 3, the Packers won 30-28 at the Niners. Mason Crosby hit a 51-yard field goal as time expired. The 49ers fell behind 17-0 in the first half but scratched their way out of the hole to take a 28-27 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the game. Aaron Rodgers had 261 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 23-of-33 passing in the win. Jimmy Garoppolo finished 25-of-40 with 257 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for the 49ers in the loss.

Green Bay leads 34-28-1 all-time in the regular season but the teams have split eight playoff meetings.

Why Bet on San Francisco?

The Niners were 23-17 upset winners at Dallas last Sunday. San Francisco dominated the majority of the contest before a slew of fourth quarter mistakes gave Dallas a chance to rally back. It was the 49ers defense who got the final stop as time expired.

The last four winners of a San Francisco-Dallas playoff game have advanced to win the Super Bowl. Overall, in six of their seven playoff matchups, the winner has earned a berth in the Super Bowl, including five total Super Bowl victories.

Deebo Samuel had 110 scrimmage yards (72 rushing, 38 receiving) and a rushing touchdown vs. Dallas. Over his last nine games, including the Wild Card victory, Samuel has averaged 6.6 yards per carry and scored 10 scrimmage touchdowns (eight rushing, two receiving).

Jimmy Garoppolo completed 16-of-25 passes for 172 yards with an awful interception in the win that nearly allowed Dallas to rally. Jimmy G improved to 3-1 career as a starting quarterback in the postseason. He suffered a slight shoulder sprain but will be good to go Saturday. Rookie Elijah Mitchell rushed 27 times for 96 yards and one touchdown in the win and has a knee injury but also will play in this one.

San Francisco and Green Bay are meeting in the playoffs for a ninth time, all in the last 26 years. Since the Packers defeated the 49ers at Candlestick Park in the 1995 postseason, no other pairings have met more than five times in the playoffs. Green Bay and San Francisco have split their eight playoff games, 4-4. The winner of a 49ers-Packers playoff game has gone on to the Super Bowl on four occasions: 1996, 1997, 2012 and 2019.

San Francisco has a 33-21 (.611) all-time postseason record, the second-highest postseason winning percentage in NFL history. Green Bay ranks third with a .600 (36-24) postseason winning percentage.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan, including a 1-0 record against the Packers (2019 NFC Championship Game), is 3-1 career in the postseason, with his only loss coming in Super Bowl LIV.

Why Bet on Green Bay?

The Packers come off their bye week and are about as healthy as possible. Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur is the first individual since the league merger in 1970 to win at least 13 games in each of his first three years as an NFL head coach. With a win on Saturday, LaFleur would join Jim Harbaugh as the only coaches since the league merger in 1970 to lead teams to their conference Championship Games in each of their first three seasons as an NFL head coach.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Debo led the NFL with a 111.9 passer rating and became the fourth quarterback since 1970 to lead the league in the category in at least four different seasons. In 20 career postseason starts, he has 5,669 passing yards (283.4 per game) with 49 touchdowns (45 passing, four rushing) and 13 interceptions for a 100.5 rating.

Rodgers, who grew up a 49ers fan and played college football in the Bay Area at the University of California, is 3-1 in the Divisional round following a first-round bye. Rodgers has played the 49ers 12 times, including the postseason, and has registered a passer rating of 90-plus in 11 of those games and a passer rating of 100-plus in six contests, including in each of the last two matchups (147.2 and 113.3). Overall, Rodgers has posted 25 TDs, five INTs and a passer rating of 104.7 (including postseason) against San Francisco.

Packers star wideout Davante Adams, who had 12 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown in the Packers’ Week 3 win at San Francisco, ranked second in the league this season with 123 receptions, third with 1,553 receiving yards and fifth with 11 touchdown catches. Since 2016, Adams leads all NFL players in both receptions (581) and touchdown catches (69). Adams has played in five games against the 49ers (including playoffs), averaging 9.6 receptions, 123.6 yards and a TD per game.

On Thursday, the Packers activated wideout Randall Cobb from injured reserve. He will be needed with deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling doubtful after getting injured in Week 18.
