The New York Yankees historically dominated the Baltimore Orioles last year, but the Orioles have won half of the six meetings this year. The clubs close out their regular-season set with four games this weekend. Here’s a look at Saturday’s lone matinee on the MLB schedule.

Why Bet on Baltimore?
The Orioles remain without two-thirds of their outfielder in Austin Hays and Anthony Santander. Hays played in a simulated game on Wednesday. He was placed on the injured list on August 15 with a non-displaced rib fracture, but he’s been ramping up baseball activities at the team’s alternate site. He’ll likely be game-ready next week, setting up a return to the Orioles for the final week or two of the season.
Santander is on the injured list with a right oblique strain that might keep him out the rest of the way. The 25-year-old was hitting .261/.315/.575 with 11 homers and 32 RBI in 37 games.
On Wednesday night, all three O’s starting outfielders (LF Ryan Mountcastle, CF Cedric Mullins, RF DJ Stewart) collected multiple hits before the end of the third inning. It marked the first such game for the Orioles since May 16, 1999 at Texas (16-5 win) when LF B.J. Surhoff, CF Brady Anderson, and RF Albert Belle notched two hits each before an out was recorded in the second inning.
Mountcastle has been killing the ball since being called up on Aug. 21. He has seven multi-hit games. Four different Orioles have at least a 10-game hitting streak this season. The Orioles are the only team in the majors to have four different players to do that. The O’s rank first in the majors in batting average (.416), and rank third in the majors in OPS (1.122) on the first pitch of an at-bat. They also lead the majors with 13 bunt hits this season.
It’s scheduled to be Dean Kremer (1-0) on Saturday. Kremer gave up just a hit and a run over six innings against the Yankees last Sunday to pick up a victory. The right-hander was called up to make his first appearance in the majors, and allowed just a single to Miguel Andujar; with the run coming on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Erik Kratz. Acquired in the Manny Machado trade from the Dodgers, the 24-year-old has a history of missing bats in the minors — he led all of MiLB in strikeouts in 2018.
Kremer is the first Israeli baseball player to be drafted into the Major Leagues. Kremer, 24, was born in California to Israeli parents. The 6-3, 185-pound right-hander pitched for the Israeli national team in the 2014 European Championships and in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. He also played for the gold-medal winning Team USA in the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel.

New York remains without third baseman Gio Urshela, but he able to hit on the field prior to Thursday’s game against the Orioles. Urshela has been on the injured list since September 4 with a bone spur in his right elbow. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that they expect Urshela to return to the lineup on Tuesday. On the year, Urshela owns a .272 average with an .873 OPS along with six homers and a steal in 103 at-bats.
Sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton remain out. Stanton has only played 14 games, thanks to a hamstring injury. Aaron Judge’s right calf strain has limited him to 18 contests. The pitching staff has been hit too, with Aroldis Chapman, Zack Britton, James Paxton, and Jonathan Loaisiga all missing time.
The Yanks have signed lefty Ryan Buchter to a minor-league contract. Buchter struggled this season pitching to 4.50 ERA with six walks in six innings over 10 games with the Los Angeles Angels, but he is 17-4 with a 2.90 ERA over 267 career MLB appearances since 2014. He could get a quick call-up if Yankees relievers don’t step it up soon as the bullpen has been a problem.
It’s scheduled to be lefty Jordan Montgomery (2-2, 5.72) on the mound Saturday. Montgomery will get his first look at the Orioles in 2020, making his eighth start of the season. He hasn’t won since Aug. 11, going 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA over his past four starts.
Montgomery was lifted after allowing two runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings Monday against the Blue Jays. He struck out one batter and did not factor in the decision. While he walked just two batters, Montgomery struggled to find the strike zone, throwing only 46 of 84 pitches for strikes. He allowed one run in each of the first two innings and had to leave early due to his high pitch count; his 84 pitches were the second most he’s thrown in an outing this season.
