Woodbine Horse Racing Odds & Picks for Saturday, June 27

Woodbine’s top race on Saturday is the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes going a mile over the turf. Rain showers could make winning the Nassau tough. Woodbine Horse Racing Picks for Saturday, June 27

Race 7 – 4:09 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles All-Weather – $37,500 Claiming

Trainer Michael Doyle doesn’t saddle a ton of horses. When he does, they often run well. On Saturday, he gives Emma Jayne-Wilson a leg up onto Freitag. The 15/1 morning line top choice has 5 wins, 4 seconds, and 4 thirds in 23 races at the distance. The 9-year-old gelding has an 8-11-6 record from 37 races over Woodbine’s all-weather surface. We’ll take a shot on the overlay.

Mark Casse puts the saddle on Federal Law. The 4-year-old gelding drops from a $62,500 race at Churchill Downs to this $37,500 claiming event. Law finished eleventh in that race at Churchill. That should help this contender hold its 10/1 morning line odds. Law is 2-2-1 at Woodbine.

Guitar George could run along for third. The even money chalk, Avie’s Mesa, doesn’t appeal. Why not take a shot on a big time underdog to get into the tri?

  • Win: Freitag
  • Place: Federal Law
  • Show: Guitar George

Race 8 – 4:42 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $175,000 G2 Nassau Stakes

Elizabeth Way is a much better horse than she showed when finishing thirteenth by 6 ½ lengths at Churchill Downs on May 30. That race, the Grade 3 Mint Julep, came up tough. Even though this is a Grade 2, it’s not nearly as competitive as the Mint Julep was. Also, jockey Emma Jayne-Wilson knows this turf course. We’ll give the 4/1 morning line runner a shot.

If Malekh shows up with her best, forget it. The Graham Motion trained runner has won 3-of-4. She’s also got a 3-2-1 record from 6 races at the distance. The chalk is the chalk for a reason.

Mark Casse trained Eyeintheskey could surprise. Sired by Sky Mesa, the 4-year-old filly wanted no part of Belmont’s yielding turf in the Intercontinental Stakes in her last. If the turf comes up yielding on Saturday, Casse might scratch.

If Mark does, go with 2/1 on the morning line Amalfi Coast for third.

  • Win: Elizabeth Way
  • Place: Malekh
  • Show: Eyeinthesky

Race 9 – 5:14 pm ET – 6 Furlongs All-Weather – $40,000 Optional Claiming

Jose Carroll trained She’s a Dream looks like a stand out. Carroll has won at 21% this meet. Sired by Silent Name, Dream finally gets back to a sprint. The work on June 18, 5 furlongs in a minute, tells us the 4/1 morning line choice is ready to roll.

Trainer Norman McKnight wins 26% with horses racing off a 90 plus days layoff, 22% with horses going first time for him, and 22% with last out maiden winners. That’s why Hai Bobbi is 3/1 on the morning line. If the odds drift higher, consider for the win slot.

Ladies Signature could do enough to get into the trifecta. The Shana Lopez trained runner goes back to 6 furlongs where she has a second and a third from 3 races. If the top two choices aren’t ready, this 8/1 morning line equine could get it done.

  • Win: She’s a Dream
  • Place: Hai Bobbi
  • Show: Ladies Signature
